Greetings fellow vigilant citizens,
How are you today?
On this day, June 9th, in 68 AD, the tyrannical emperor Nero died. On this same day in 1870, British novelist Charles Dickens died, and on this same day in 1981, Israeli-American actress Natalie Portman was born. My lame claim to fame is that I studied at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem with Natalie Portman, and I met her once (or at least I saw her) at a party. ๐
But whatโs going on in this crazy clown world ๐คก ๐ today?
Scientists warn that they are running out of dystopian sci-fi movies to make into reality.
President Trump responded to mostly peaceful protests with mostly peaceful military.
As much as I dislike and distrust Trump, heโs right about Governor Gavin Newsom. Victor Davis Hanson, who is also right about Newsom, elaborates about what Newsomโs incompetence means. Newsom claims that Trump wants a Civil War on the streets of America, but Trump claims that itโs just the opposite. The natural consequences of Democrat rule include illegal aliens violently rioting in L.A. (see also here) This reeks of a Soros op.
In PostModern Conservative Titus Techera shared a recent conversation between Alex Priou and Audrey Unverferth about โmen & care for the soul as a political problem in the context of modern technology, a power that seemingly bestrides the planet.โ The problem they address is similar to the problem that Leo Strauss addressed in his 1941 lecture โGerman Nihilism,โ an understanding of which, according to R.R. Reno, Fukuyama gets wrong. Another outgrowth of the problem that Strauss, Reno, Fukuyama, Techera, Priou, and Unverferth discuss is, as Natalie Issa argues, that โyoung men seek community in the โmanosphereโ.โ Everyone and their dog claims to possess the remedy for what ails modern American men. While I also endorse repeated and careful study of Platoโs Republic, engagement with Heideggerโs thought, and an understanding of Leo Strauss and his intellectual posterity, please allow me to politely suggest that the real solution to the problem of modern man, and the modern man problem, is found in the Book of Mormon.
Speaking of the real solution to the problem of modern man, and the modern man problem, I appreciate Daniel C. Petersonโs recent reflections on greatness in his article โWhen โGreatโ Men Are Anything But: Rethinking Power Through the Lens of Christ.โ I agree with him, for the most part. For my own reflections on the same, or a similar topic, see my post โSoli Deo Gloria: What Is Greatness?โ In a similar vein, I also recommend the following of my Book of Mormon reflections:

Finally, a brief note on the bad news of the day. Did you see this tornado? ๐คฏ RFK, Jr. is pushing the bioweapon jab, euphemistically called the mRNA shot, and therefore he must go. Laura Delano revealed the dark truth about antidepressants, SSRIโs, and the psychiatrists lying for profit to Tucker Carlson. (Iโm sharing this again because it is so important.) Conor Boyack lamented the codification of bad Church culture. Heโs not wrong. Go Elโs GRAMA request was denied by the Utah County attorneyโs office, but he has also filed an appeal. Thatโs enough bad news for today. Focus on the good. โ๏ธ
